What it does
Five things Sift can do
Every option below reads the page exactly as you see it, shows you where it found things, and lets you save the results.
Search for anything
Type in a word or phrase, and Sift finds every place it shows up on the page. Think of it like a smarter version of Ctrl+F. Jump between results with the arrow keys.
Ready-made searches
One click finds every phone number, email, link, @handle, price, or date on the page, without picking up random numbers that only look like a match.
Handles endless scrolling
Some pages keep loading more content as you scroll, like a social media feed. Click "Harvest" and Sift scrolls down for you automatically, waiting for new content to load, and even clicks "Load more" buttons on its own.
Finds hidden text too
Some information is built into a page without ever being shown on screen, like a phone number hidden behind a "Call us" button. Sift checks for that as well.
Shows you where things are
A small map down the side of the screen shows roughly where on the page your results are, from top to bottom, so you can see at a glance whether they're spread out or bunched together.
Save your results
Copy everything with one click, or save it all to a spreadsheet file, with each result plus a note on where it came from and how many times it showed up.
Setup
From download to first scan
Sift isn't in the Chrome Web Store yet, so it installs a little differently than most extensions. It only takes about two minutes.
Download the file
Use the button near the top of this page. It saves as sift.zip, a small file with everything inside it. There's nothing to run yet.
Unzip the file
Right-click the downloaded file and choose "Extract All" (or "Unzip"). Save it somewhere you won't delete later, like your Documents folder, rather than your Downloads folder.
Open your browser's extensions page
Click into the address bar at the top of your browser, type chrome://extensions, and press enter. This works the same way in Edge, Brave, and Arc.
Turn on "Developer mode"
Look for a switch in the top-right corner of that page and turn it on. This simply allows you to add an extension that didn't come from the Chrome Web Store, which is normal and safe to do.
Click "Load unpacked"
A new button appears once Developer mode is turned on. Click it, then select the unzipped sift folder from step 2. Choose the folder itself, not the original zip file.
Pin it to your toolbar
Click the puzzle-piece icon near the top of your browser, find Sift in the list, and click the pin next to it. Now it'll always be visible and just one click away.
Try it out
Go to any web page, click the Sift icon, choose what you're looking for, then click Scan page. That's really all there is to it.
